An interesting teacher training day

Ok, first of all thanks to all of you who wrote me encouraging things in one form or another after the last entry (I promise I wasn't fishing for it with my entry but I loved getting it all the same!). Life is decidedly looking up now. Isn't it amazing how the most basic things can turn you back into a normal person after adult sized toddler meltdowns? A few things that have cheered me up lately: God being just as amazing as ever. Sunshine in Paris (it's finnnallly spring and gorgeous here!). I've been rollerblading to work instead of biking (not as fast but much better than walking!). Our schedules are getting a little sanity back to them (I'm a little afraid to say that out loud for fear of jinxing myself but soyons fous!). My cat has made a green olive her new favorite toy (she chases it all over the apartment but the best part is when she "catches" it by biting into it...hilarious. If you've never seen a cat bite into a green olive put that onto your bucket list). But here's the most randomly funny thing that has gotten me chuckling this week...

Before you look at the music video, first you need a little background: picture me on Wednesday at my surprise professional development day. (I say surprise because I remembered it only on Tuesday) I'm sitting in a workshop geared towards using nursery rhymes and poetry in the preschool and elementary classroom. Our "teacher", a middle-aged woman from the north of England, has just been explaining to us the historical context surrounding some traditional nursery rhymes. She then proceeds to explain that rap is now the modern day equivalent of traditional nursery rhymes and then reads off a kids poem sung to a rap beat. Then she tells us about this dinosaur rap song that she just loves, and this is the music video that she puts on...

Please just humor me and picture all these teachers that work with young children and the looks on their faces while watching this video. The best (or worst!) part is that our teacher was totally into the song--she knew it word for word and even had matching gestures! While she did eventually state that she wasn't trying to promote drugs or even exposing this song to small children it definitely had to be the most random thing I've encountered all month! And to think that this was part of our professional development! Too random I just can't help but laugh at it... What was she thinking?!? Oh those Brits...
